The Selection Process
One of the biggest perks of building your home is getting to choose everything from the floor plan to the doorknobs, right? No more staring at the dated brass fixtures someone else chose. No more looking at cherry cabinets when your heart longs to have white ones. Finally, everything is catered to your personal tastes. However, having everything to your specifications means you must make what feels like a million choices. For most people, this can seem like a daunting task, and you may wonder if both you and your marriage are up to the challenge.
Combatting Overwhelm
Here at Hirsch Custom Homes, we alleviate overwhelm by having an in-house designer on staff to help you wade through the endless choices that await. Our designers contribute their expertise to ensure that your vision is seamlessly translated into the physical structure of your home, while working closely with the construction team to make sure your project goes smoothly. Here is a glimpse of what that process will look like. You can also go to the bottom of this article for a handy selection list so you can be prepared.
Home Plans
This is one of the most exciting parts of building a home and for that reason, we tend to see people rush into getting their blueprints. Unfortunately, these building plans rarely work, and the process has to be repeated at the customer’s expense. Either the blueprints were purchased online and do not meet local building requirements, or the plans do not match the budget the customer has to spend. We strongly recommend that you speak to a builder first. Here at Hirsch Custom Homes, we are happy to help you put together a building plan that meets your needs and price point.
Once you have chosen a home plan, we can assist you in choosing the best way to position the home on your particular lot to maximize the attractiveness of your dream home.
The Design Process
Once you have your building plan finalized, you will have your initial design meeting to begin choosing your selections. This meeting normally focuses on choosing windows, doors and exterior finishes which are so important to the overall curb appeal of your home. Want to know things like which doors match the overall style of your home. We can help with that. Next you will move onto your cabinet layout. This is where the vision and overall style really start to come together. Our design team will discuss how you use your kitchen and focus on making sure that it’s functional for your life and how you use it. From there it’s on to appliances and electrical decisions such as where to place light fixtures and outlets. Do you plan on having a fireplace? You will need to make decisions on both type and finishes. The rest of the process will involve mostly materials and finishes from where to place crown mold to towel bars and tile. Our designer will guide you every step of the way and make sure that your style is reflected in the best way possible. You will also be guided on your budget. Our team will let you know when you go over an allowance so that you can stay on track and avoid surprises.
